1. Meaning of Draft:

Draft is an outline of a document or something to be done. A draft is a preparatory writing of any document for purposes of discussion and correction and which is afterwards, to be copied out in its final shape. A draft is a rough sketch of a writing or document from which final or fair copy is made. One who draws or frames a document such as a will, conveyance etc. is called ‘draftsman’. One who draws or interprets pleadings or other writings is called as ‘dragoman’.

2. Meaning of Drafting:

As we know Draft is an outline of a document, Drafting is a science and it is acquired by long practice. There is a slight difference between draft and drafting, Drafting is the act of writing of documents. Drafting of documents present the brief statements of most significant facts of the issue or situation. Drafting the documents is a technical activity which demands skills and patience from the advocates. Drafted document should be simple, interesting and lucid. Only hard and patient work on the facts, careful and critical assessment and intelligent planning of the drafting the document can facilitate the communication. The aim of drafted document is accuracy and truth.

Drafting a document should normally go through three drafts. The object of the first draft is comprehensiveness and fullness of facts. In the second draft, the document should be improved by correcting both the form and language by considerable trimming and pruning. The facts and sentences have to be re-aligned. The final draft concentrates on the finish up and the final touches or documentation to make the document authoritative and convincing.
